Indian Expedition to Southern Ocean/Antarctic waters is a major Polar Scientific Research Programme of Ministry of Earth Sciences, which confer with the climate variability scenario in a global and regional scale. It is a multidisciplinary multinational programme. The 9th Indian Scientific Expedition to Southern Ocean has been launched from Port Louis, Mauritius on 6th January 2017. To participate in the expedition a team of 25 scientists from various organizations and Universities across the country viz. Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune; Goa University; Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Kochi; National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research, Goa as well as University of York, United Kingdom have boarded the chartered Ice Class Research Vessel SA Agulhas [owned by South African Maritime Safety Authority, a South African Government Institute]. The team has already started the data and sample collection along the pre-planned cruise transect. The duration of the expedition shall be for 60 days.
